Claytor Lake State Park

If you’re looking for a place to visit that’s within driving distance of Pulaski, Claytor Lake State Park is a great option. It’s located just 30 miles from Pulaski in Dublin and offers a plethora of activities and amenities. Claytor Lake State Park is actually composed of two parks: Claytor Wilderness Area and Claytor Lake Recreation Area.

The former is an undeveloped area with hiking trails and camping sites; the latter features a marina and campground as well as other amenities like boat rentals and a general store. The park also hosts several events throughout the year, including fishing tournaments, family fun days, and more!

New River Trail State Park

New River Trail State Park is a little over an hour away from Pulaski and is one of the best parks in the state. The park features hiking trails, fishing, and camping. The New River Trail State Park has a variety of different trails that range in difficulty. There are easier hikes like the Mill Creek loop trail or more difficult hikes like the Rock Castle Gorge loop trail.

The Mill Creek loop trail is a 2.6-mile hike that takes you through beautiful scenery and ends at a waterfall. The Rock Castle Gorge loop trail is a 7-mile hike that takes you through rocky terrain and ends at Rock Castle Gorge. The waterfall at Mill Creek is amazing during all seasons because it has waterfalls during spring, summer, fall, and winter!

Hungry Mother State Park

Hungry Mother State Park is a secluded gem located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The park offers gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, as well as several recreational activities. The park was once home to Native Americans who hunted and fished along its banks. Today, you can hike and bike along trails that follow the creek’s path or explore dense forests on horseback or by foot.

If you want to spend a day off from hiking and biking, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy at Hungry Mother State Park. You can swim in one of two pools or enjoy an outdoor concert with live music at their amphitheater.
