The Jeep Compass is usually available in eight trims: Sport, Latitude, Altitude, Latitude Lux, (RED) Edition, Limited, High Altitude, and Trailhawk. Its exterior exemplifies typical Jeep styling with the seven-slot grille. It comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and roof rails, but available upgrades include fog lights, 18-or 19-inch wheels, a hands-free liftgate, and a panoramic sunroof.

Regardless of the model, the Jeep Compass comes with a 200-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 221 pound-feet of torque. This engine has an additional 23 horsepower and 49 pound-feet of torque than the outgoing version. The current engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The SUV comes standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available.

When it comes to gas mileage, the Jeep Compass achieves about-average numbers. Expect to get an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. Jeep vehicles are known for their off-roading prowess, and the Compass is no different. All models utilize the automaker's Selec-Terrain drive mode system, which includes Mud, Sand, and Snow settings. For an ultimate off-road experience, opt for the Trailhawk trim since it has a 1-inch suspension lift, all-terrain tires, and additional drive modes (Hill Descent and Rock). Also, when properly equipped, the Compass has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds.

As a two-row SUV that seats five people, the Jeep Compass provides comfortable seats for all travelers. It also offers ample space for those riding in both rows.

You'll have a hard time finding a vehicle in its class that has a better infotainment system than the one found in the Compass. The standard 10.1-inch touchscreen display has stunning graphics and quick response time, and navigation is simple. The SUV comes standard with a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, satellite radio, three USB ports, voice recognition, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Upper trims include wireless smartphone charging, navigation, HD radio, and Amazon Alexa connectivity.

Every trim of later Jeep Compass models come standard with almost a dozen driver-assistance features. A few of these key features include blind-spot monitoring, forward automatic emergency braking, driver-attention monitoring, and a rear-seat alert. Available add-on features are almost as numerous and include rain-sensing windshield wipers, traffic-sign recognition, a surround-view parking camera system, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Thanks in part to these impressive safety features, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the SUV with the highest rating in all six crash tests. Additionally, models equipped with LED projector headlights earned a Top Safety Pick designation.
